Apple permite la inspección de sus fábricas
Luego de que recientemente el diario The New York Times informara acerca de las pésimas condiciones laborales en las que se encuentran los fabricantes de Apple en China, quienes han protestado alegando que deben trabajar durante largas jornadas bajo normas de seguridad casi inexistentes, la compañía de la manzana abrió sus puertas a una organización de afuera para ser inspeccionada.

Durante años, la empresa se negó a la inspección independiente de los proveedores que hacen sus componentes electrónicos. Pero por primera vez ha comenzado a divulgar información que antes se consideraba secreta después de las protestas en varias de sus tiendas en distintas partes del mundo. Con nuevos productos a punto de ser lanzados, la empresa se arriesgó a ser inspeccionada.
El mes pasado liberó los nombres de 156 de sus proveedores. Dos semanas más tarde, el presidente ejecutivo envió un mail a 65 mil empleados defendiendo el récord de fabricación de la compañía y pidiendo, también, “lanzarse con más profundidad en la “cadena de suministro”. Y ahora le ha pedido a un grupo de afuera -una empresa sin fines de lucro financiada en parte por empresas como Apple- que identifique públicamente las fábricas que cometen abusos.
Varios analistas concuerdan que los cambios que genere Apple pueden afectar a grandes sectores de toda la industria ya que muchas compañías utilizan a los mismos proveedores. Aunque algunos grupos se han demostrado satisfechos con la iniciativa de Apple, otros han declarado que la empresa de inspección elegida por la compañía (Fair Labor Association), que se encuentra en Washington, no es lo suficientemente independiente. Y algunos comentan que las inspecciones -Apple mencionó que los fabricantes habrían accedido voluntariamente- corte abruptamente los problemas o ayude a la empresa a deshacerse de las críticas.
